Claremont learners shine at WP Metro Top Schools tournament

On Saturday the 29 th of July 2017, Claremont High’s U15 and U18 chess teams played at Turfhall Primary in the WP Metro Top Schools tournament. Caleb, Raaziq, Splendor, Joshua, Tyrone and Marcel made our U15 team. Suthukazi, Matthew, Ayanda, Lesedi, Uri and Millan played in our U18 team.

The tournament comprised of three rounds and in each round we played one of the following schools: Curro, De Kuilen, Spine Road, Parel Vallei and
Stellenberg. Each round had many challenges and setbacks, however Claremont High stood strong and both teams managed to finish 3 rd at the end of the day.

So Claremont is the 3 rd best school in chess in our district. The next match will be the Western Province Playoffs in Worcester where we will play
against all the best schools in the Western Cape. Special mentions go to both Chess teams who gave it their all, to Lesedi for beating a Fide Master from Curro, and to our MVP, Splendor, who won all three matches.
