Can I join CHS in 2019?
Unfortunately, no; all places have been filled for 2019, and we are no longer accepting students this year.
What subjects does CHS offer?
Grade 8&9 subjects: English HL, isiXhosa/Afrikaans FAL, Mathematics, Physical Science, Life Science, Geography, History, Economic Management Sciences, Technology, Creative Arts, Life Orientation.
Grade 10-12 subjects: CHS is a Maths and Science focus school, which means that these subjects are compulsory for all students to take all the way through to matric. All students take English as a home language, and choose between isiXhosa and Afrikaans as a first additional language. Life Orientation is the fifth compulsory subject. In addition, learners must choose two out of the following subjects: Geography, Life Sciences and Accounting.
What are the school fees for 2020?
School fees are currently R8700, with a small increase every year. Please go to School Fees for more information.
Does CHS offer scholarships for learners?
No, we do not. However, if families are unable to afford the school fees, they may apply for fee exemption. Alternatively, many of our learners are on scholarships from external scholarship providers. We partner with Spirit Education Foundation, SAILI, Leisure Education Trust, Kay Mason Foundation, and HCI Foundation, as well as some private supporters who have chosen to sponsor individual learners.
What is the CHS uniform?
For boys: white shirts, grey shorts/trousers, grey socks, black school shoes, CHS tie (red, white and black stripes), red CHS jersey (matrics have their own jersey), grey blazer, black school rain jacket. Sports uniform: CHS sports t-shirt, black shorts.
For girls: white shirts, grey skirts/shorts/trousers, white socks or black pantyhose/stockings, black school shoes, CHS tie (red, white and black stripes), red CHS jersey (matrics have their own jersey), grey blazer, black school rain jacket. Sports uniform: CHS sports t-shirt, black shorts.
For both boys and girls, hair is permitted to be long, but must be tied back if it touches the shoulders, and must look neat at all times.
What extra murals does CHS offer?
We pride ourselves on a wide range of exciting opportunities for our learners. Our rich extra mural programme includes Art & Design, Cross Country, Bird Club, Basic Portuguese, Debating, Choir, Basketball, Drama, Gaming Society, Girls soccer, Chess, Christian Union, Muslim Students Association, Hip Hop Dance, Learn to swim, Greenteam Eco Club, Sakhanya, isiXhosa for beginners, Table Tennis, Kung Fu, Interact, Netball, Zumba, Robotics, Walk 4 life, Touch Rugby, Urban Dance. We also offer many tutoring opportunities for subjects such as Maths, Science, Accounting, English and Afrikaans, to further support our learners.
Is CHS a boarding school?
No, we do not have boarding/hostel facilities.
Does CHS offer transport?
No. However, many of our students use public transport such as buses, taxis and the train, or form lift clubs with other students to be able to get to school.
