Every year, we provide two opportunities for thirteen students to visit Sutherland. This weekend trip includes sights of scientific and historical interest.
The road to Sutherland includes a stop of geological significance, while Sutherland itself is also an interesting town. The highlight of the weekend is no doubt the visit to SALT (the largest telescope in the Southern hemisphere). We enjoy a guided star-gazing experience, explore the Karoo town, all the while developing friendships and making memories. Sutherland is always a very memorable trip!
On route, we visit Matjiesfontien, what is now a small tourist town. Here we visit the museum, hotel and train station, and are given a guided tour around the town.
